As a mother of a Make Insulin Affordable Again Diabetes Shirt 3 year old with TYPE 1 in the UK… all I can say is THANK GOD for the NHS. Not only do they provide us with insulin, they provide us with amazing support. We have access to a ‘diabetic team’ and my daughter has a designated diabetic nurse who we can call with any query we have with regards to her health. Our care since her diagnosis when she was 2 has been nothing short of exceptional. We are so so lucky. That’s why we need to give more to keep our NHS! I’d happily increase my taxes if it meant FREE HEALTHCARE for all guaranteed. and so easy to change this, is amazing that it stays rigged. this isn’t even one company with a patent overcharging, it’s blatant price fixing across multiple companies. Every time I pick my 10 year old sons prescription up for his type 1 diabetes, I thank god for the NHS. This story is awful. As a type 1 diabetic this makes my blood run cold. I wish they could know how it feels to have your life depend on a tiny bottle of medicine that other people have control of. Its utter cruelty. Imagine risking making yourself or your child blind because you have to ration a common medicine. I work in retail pharmacy and this is totally accurate. And it’s not just insulin it’s everything. Dont even get me started about how under paid pharmacy technicians are, or how over worked pharmacists are. As a Swedish T1 diabetic I have no clue of what insulin costs. Yeah, it’s included in our tax paid national health system. As it should be. All diabetic medication is free in Ireland – it is essential life preserving medication and should be provided for free by the government in every country. USA is great if you have lots of cash. But give me the UK any day of the week. People constantly run the country and NHS down but we have so much to be grateful for. BBC.

My daughter has had T1 diabetes since she was 2. I have a good job so I’ve always had good insurance to ensure she has the insulin she requires. She is working on her PhD and wont be out of school for a couple more years. Thanks to the affordable care act, I can cover her until she is 26. She turns 26 in August and I am terrified when we have to get her on her own insurance plan. After she graduates with her PhD, she is looking for a position in a country where she will not have to worry about affording insulin. That is sad that as he has to leave the country to feel safe. This is horrific! I am so glad that we live in the UK. We have a T1 son. T1 is so unbelievably stressful without the debilitating worry of cost. This??? In the Great United States of America???? Nothing “Great” about this or the thousands upon thousands of people with similar scenarios! It’s Shameful! It’s Disgusting! Wake up and demand what is right! Universal health care works! I am without insurance right now, because I’m a farmer, and I can’t afford it. My husband and I are discussing giving up our farm, and moving to a country where we can actually live on our retirement, partly so we can have decent health care. “Health care” in the US needs to be called what it actually is: extortion!
