Players don’t play from the heart anymore only for the money…..I’d rather go watch a bunch of 8 years old play. Ironically this might mean an end to Women football in Ireland. Sport is build around sponsors. Sponsors pay for viewers. Women football attract much less attention hence much less money income for clubs hence need for lower salaries. Forcing clubs to pay more in salaries will lead to shutting down Women football divisions. Sad that we as people always look for short win. This is clearly motivated by hope of political gain and has nothing to do with Women wellbeing and equity. If Stephanie wanted equity she should have pushed for broadcasters for more air time on tv. That might have led to more sponsors->money->higher wages. But broadcasters are campaign sponsors so cannot risk upsetting them! I’m guessing that men’s football has a larger audience and generates more money than women’s football so it’s perfectly reasonable for the men to be paid more than the women. They’re not being discriminated against because of their gender, it’s just the result of economic reality. My boss (a woman) is paid more than me because she’s got a more senior challenging role, it’s not sexist, that’s just the nature of jobs. BBC.
