Aww, such a Camping Go Outside Worst Case Scenario Bear Kills You T-shirt darling panda. Why doesn’t he pat her or give her a hug, she’s showing him love and acceptance. I would be hugging her all the time, dear baby. zookeeper needs to stop and hug the baby and love on him for a while, he needs that as well as all the professional help he gets. All babies need someone to hold them, hug them, rock them and just spend quality time with them. I would have been tempted to pick her up and hug her even though I know that isn’t what is appropriate for a wild animal. I’m sorry but if a baby panda is clinging to my leg my entire day stops right there. Literally nothing else would get done and I’d be completely unapologetic. Tragic- says it all about captivity. Why preserve a species if this is what they get – it’s got absolutely nothing to do with them and everything to do with what humans want. It’s not the bear’s fault she was in their territory. Obviously it’s a tragedy she lost her life, but she was aware of the potential costs. And unfortunately the bear will have to suffer it too. Humans really need to respect animals and this earth more. Since the comment section is focused on blaming a woman who was killed, I’ll go ahead and say I’m sorry to hear about a loss of human life, a nurse who spent her life in the service of others, an adventurous spirit, and a woman likely loved and has left a hole in the lives of her loved ones. Rest in peace. Leah was a friend of mine. She and her friends were 5 days into a bike-packing trip on the Continental Divide Trail, which runs for hundreds of miles along the spine of the Rocky Mountains through prime grizzly bear habitat. They had already camped out for three or four nights, in the wild, without incident. And then she gets killed by a bear, camped out in town, dragged from her tent that was pitched between the museum and the jail. She was an accomplished outdoorswoman and a World-class bicycle athlete. Unfortunately, I think she made a mistake by having food in her tent. She probably let her guard down because they were camped out in town, and she paid for it with her life. RIP my friend. BBC.

Why…..why do campers not always have some kind of protection) on hand in the event an animal attacks them? Any time you are in the wild, you are invading the animals space so it can happen. I imagine the bear likely smelled food in the area and was just following his nose to the source. I don’t think the bear should be put down. It’s unfortunate the camper lost their life but I hope that people can learn from this unfortunate and tragic incident. It’s not the bear’s fault she was in their territory. Obviously it’s a tragedy she lost her life, but she was aware of the potential costs. And unfortunately the bear will have to suffer it too. Humans really need to respect animals and this earth more.
